Srinagar, Feb 25 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment, which is home to 20,000 serving soldiers and Lakhs of ex-servicemen of the state of J&K, turned a new leaf in its illustrious march towards excellence with a change of guard at its helm.
PRO (Defense, Srinagar, Colonel NN Joshi in a statement to KNS said that in a simple, solemn ceremony held at the Regimental Centre in Rangreth, Srinagar, Lt Gen Satish Dua took over as the 21st Colonel of the Regiment (COR) from Lt Gen Ravi Nair, Director General Recruiting, who is set to hang his uniform on29 Feb 2016.
“The ceremony for changeover commenced with paying of homage to all the Regiment’s Martyrs at the War Memorial. Later, the General Officers addressed all ranks in a ‘Sainik Sammelan’ at the end of which the symbolic ‘exchange of baton’ took place.”
Lt Gen Satish Dua is, presently, leading arguably the most nuanced Corps of the Army, the Chinar Corps in Kashmir Valley and joins the ilk of Padma Bhushan Lt Gen (Dr) ML Chibber and Lt Gen Hari Prasad as the COR, the PRO said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“He is the first General to hold both these vital appointments in the Kashmir Valley concurrently.”
Speaking on the occasion, he said that it was an honour for him to be reposed with the trust of leading the Regiment, which was born out of the patriotic volunteers who stood up to resist the invaders in J&K in 1947-48.
He pledged his commitment towards improvement of the Regiment, building upon the exceptional work done by his predecessors and strive for the betterment of soldiers, veterans, war widows and the Awaam of J&K. JAK LI is the only Regiment of the Indian Army that recruits men only from J&K. (KNS)
