Srinagar, Apr 09 (KNS): Four civilians have been killed while dozens have been injured in Budgam district during clashes with government forces during by-polls for Srinagar parliament constituency, while Chief Electoral Officer said that the re-poll will be held at those places where polling could not take place.
Till 1 pm 5 % votes were cast in Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal assembly segments that comprise the Srinagar parliamentary constituency, out of the 1261395 voters.
Chief Electoral Officer, JK, Shantmanu told KNS that four civilians were killed in Budgam while dozens of them were injured.
“The situation is not good, particularly in Budgam. Nearly 5 % votes were cast till 1 pm out of more than 1261395 votes in the constituency,” the CEO told KNS.
He said 10 vehicles were burnt down, 14 Electronic Voting Machines were damaged and re-poll will be held at those places where polling could not be held.
Earlier, a top police official told KNS that three civilians were killed in Budgam district during clashes with government forces in the forenoon during polling.
The official identified them as Faizan Ahmad and Muhammad Abbas of Dalwan, Pakherpora and Nisar Ahmad Mir of Ratsuna, Beerwa, all three of Budgam district.

Violent clashes also took place across Budgam district while authorities had to shift polling booths at several places. Clashes also erupted in Srinagar, particularly in Eidgah constituency where authorities had to shift a number of polling stations to safer places.
The police official told KNS that situation went worse in Budgam district only, while in Srinagar and Ganderbal the situation is “under control”.
Amid volatile situation, Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency recorded 4.98 percent votes till 1.00 pm, out of total electorate of 1261395. By 1.00 pm62891voters had exercised their right to vote.
In Srinagar District, Hazratbal segment recorded 1892 votes, Khanyar 1402, Habba Kadal 1627, Eidgah 278, Zadibal 2516, Amira Kadal 2614, Sonwar 3490, Batamaloo 3234, thus recording 17053 votes which include 10760 male and 6293 female voters.
In Budgam district, Chadoora segment recorded 462 votes, Budgam 7859, Beerwah 9835, Khansahib 7450 and Chrar-e-Sharief 1521 aggregating total of 27127 votes polled in the district which include 22729 male and 4398 female voters.
In Ganderbal district, the Kangan segment recorded 12196 and Ganderbal segment recorded 6515 votes including 11116 male and 7595 female electorates.
Thus the total poll percentage by 1.pm was 4.98 percent. (KNS)
