Locals allege illegal felling of deodar trees in Bhaderwah forest division

Bhaderwah, March 15 (KNS): The locals of Bhaderwah have alleged that green deodar trees are being axed down in the Chirala forest range of Bhaderwah forest division in District Doda.

They claim that while the Conservator of Forest has stopped sanctioning timber under the Jammu Forest Notice, extraction work continues in compartment 5 and 8 in Jungalwar area of Chirala forest range.

The locals accuse the Range Officer of failing to check timber smuggling and corruption, alleging that deodars are being axed down under the garb of sanctioning Kail timber to people living near forests under the forest notice scheme.

They have called for the Chief Conservator Forests Jammu to intervene personally and hold the Block Forest Officer Jangalwar accountable.

The damage to forests is said to be significant, with deodar trees being affected in Gubbar compartment, compartment 8 Jangalwar, Gallu in compartment 5, and compartment 13 Jaie block. (KNS)
