Srinagar, Oct 01 (KNS): The Army on Friday said that a local militant was killed in an encounter in Rakhama village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday morning. 

In a statement, issuer to Kashmir News Service (KNS), a defence spokesperson said that on receiving a specific intelligence from JKP about the presence of a militant in the vicinity of Village Rakhama, a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and JKP at 11:30 pm last night.

“The cordon was established by 02:00 AM in the morning. One militant was located and multiple appeals were made to him to surrender but he opened fire on the troops at about 05:00 AM. He was finally neutralized by the security forces in the ensuing firefight,” the statement reads.

It reads that as per the Police, the militant has been identified as Mujeeb Amin Lone, resident of Redwani in Kulgam district.  

“He had joined militant ranks in early September this year and was reponsible for creating terror in the locality. He had been coercing innocent citizens to sympathise with anti-nationals,” it reads. (KNS)
