LG Sinha flags off first batch of Amarnath Yatris from Jammu Base Camp

Srinagar, June 29 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on Wednesday flagged off the first batch of pilgrims for Amarnath Yatra from Jammu base camp. 


An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) said LG Sinha along with administrative officers flagged off the first batch of Yatris from Yatri Niwas in Bhagwati Nagar area of Jammu today morning.

Notably, amid unprecedented security measures in Jammu and Kashmir, the Amarnath Yatra will commenced on Thursday (June 30) after a gap of two years due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The official said that unprecedented security measures and all other arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth and successful conduct of the annual Yatra.

He added that 500 additional companies of security forces including BSF, CRPF, ITBP and SSB have been deployed to ensure smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage. 

Notably, Amarnath Yatra is being held after a gap of two years for remaining suspended due to Covid-19 pandemic. The Yatra was also cut short in 2019 in view of the abrogation of article 370 and 35-A. (KNS)
