LG's rolling trophy: 40k youth register, highest registrations from Kupwara

Srinagar September 1 (KNS):  LG's rolling Trophy (Cricket) is receiving an overwhelming response as 40,000 budding sportspersons have registered for the tournament for which trials started  days before at district level under the department of Youth Service and sports. 

The trails which were supposed to be closed after two days have been extended for more days after seeing overwhelming response from participants.

In the process the department will select each team from a zone to participate in the inter-zone and then inter-district. 

The sports carnival would cater to sportspersons from Zone to UT level across entire Jammu Kashmir which has been launched to scout, train the talented youth. 

The official data available with Kashmir News Service (KNS) reveals that more than 41 thousand youth have registered for trails at 186 zones so far. 

Notably, Kupwara district has highest registration tally of 3026 participants till date.

At Zone level cash awards for first three positions have been fixed at Rs 50000, Rs 25000, Rs 10000 respectively while as man of the series and man of the match will get cash prizes of 10000 and 1000 respectively at this level. 

The official added that "at inter district UT level cash awards for the first three positions have been fixed as Rs 1 lac, Rs 75000, Rs 50000 respectively. Man of the series and Man of the match title winners shall get a chance to win cash prizes of Rs 50000 and 2500 respectively."

Speaking to KNS,  Nodal officer for LG's rolling trophy, Balbir Singh Sodhi, said this is the project of mission youth, in collaboration with youth service and sports. The project has been assigned to Youth service and sports because of manpower available with us, he said, "We have already started open trails to select the talented youth from each zone."


He also said that in future, other sports activities, like football, volleyball will also be initiated to engage more youth. 


We are getting a good response from youth and this is the opportunity for youth to show their talent, he added. (KNS)
