Police Tuesday claimed to have killed a Lashkar-e- Toiba (LeT), militant in a brief encounter at Dogripora village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
A senior police official told KNS that acting on a tip off, SOG Awantipora and SOG Sangman cordoned a village Dogripora where three militants were hiding.
Meanwhile during a search operation a fierce gun battle started between the SOG personnel and militants in which one militant identified as Jahangir Ahmad Ganai was killed.
Police sources told KNS that the Ganai had joined the militant outfit LeT only 20 days ago.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“While two of three militants were successful to escape but Ganai was killed in a brief gunfight,” sources said.
They said that Ganai is a resident of Koil Awantipora, who had gone missing from his home last month.
Meanwhile, SSP Awantipora Irshad Ahmad told KNS that a LeT militant has been killed in an encounter at 4 pm Tuesday but said the identity of the slain militant was yet to be ascertained.
“We have recovered two grenades from the encounter site,” he added. (KNS)
