Langate residents decry water crisis

Langate,April 20 (KNS): Residents of various villages of Langate in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Tuesday complained they were without drinking water from last couple of Days and the concerned departmentis watching mute spectator.

According to KNS Correspondent dozens villages in Langate constituency of Kupwara district are facing acute water scarcity with many people drinking unhygienic water of river Mawer which poses them serious threat to get infected with water borne diseases.

Reports said People from Mawer Nowgam Bagdaji Reshwari area alleged that they are facing grave hardships due to shortage of drinking water and are forced to drink contaminated water of river Mawer .

According to the residents the women of this area are being forces to fetch the water from steams were animals too drink the water.

“There is no drinking water in our village and we are forced to drink contaminated water of canals which is unhygienic and health hazardous for us,” said Mustaq Ahmad of Nowgam Mawer Langate.

Another Person from Reshwari Ajaz Ahmad Pathan village  also complained of drinking water shortage.“We are being compelled to walk 2-3 kilometers everyday to fetch water from a canal here. Government has been promising us to provide drinking water, 
Another lady said "There is no drinking water facility in our area and we have been forced to drink water that gets accumulated in the paddy fields, while as the government launched a water supply scheme some 15 years back but it has never worked for us"

Similarly, thousands of people living in the area of Mawer are facing drinking water shortage,the acute water scarcity in this area has become usual as authorities are taking no measures to address the problem.(KNS)
