Lack of repairing on irrigation canal feared to hits paddy cultivations in Karnah Village

Karnah June 2:(KNS) (KNS) The paddy Cultivation feared to hits in Kandi Balla area of Karnah north Kashmir's Kupwara district as the irrigation department failed to go through water on Lountha-Kandi irrigation canal despite spending huge amount on it.

    According to Kashmir News Service (KNS) the Paddy crop being cultivated on dozens of kanals of land in the area is on the verge of suffering a huge damage due to lack of repairing of irrigation canal despite spending huge amount on it.

  Apart from various fruits and vegetables, villagers also cultivate paddy in the area. However, farmers are worried about the lack of adequate irrigation water this year.

  The villagers said 'The failure of the department to regularly repair and desilt canal has almost left this defunct this has forced farmers to depend on precious water to irrigate their fields by using piped water.

  The Villagers blamed the local Irrigation Department, saying, “ despite spending huge amount on Kandi-Lountha irrigation canal the only source of water for our fields and incoming water has been cut off and the Paddy crop is on the verge of collapse without irrigation'.

  Expressing dismay over the role of Irrigation Department, the farmers alleged that despite bringing the matter to the notice of the department on several times, no step has been taken so far. They said though lack of irrigation facilities has taken a toll on their crop, the department has not bothered to look into the matter.

    When contacted by Kashmir News Service (KNS), Xen Karnah Manzoor Ahmad he said 'that he will see what exactly has made the farmers suffer and will refer the matter to concerned JE he assured villagers that the water for irrigation purpose will be provided within two days.(KNS)
