JAMMU, Mar 18 (KNS): In a significant move to enhance the ease of doing business in the Union Territory, the Labour Commissioner, J&K, today chaired an interactive session with representatives from various industries and establishments to review licensing procedures and the implementation of the new Labour Codes.
The meeting, held at Shram Bhawan in Jammu, was attended by a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including M/s Vivanta, M/s Movie Time, M/s Jio (J&K), M/s Blinkit, M/s Lords Inn, M/s TRG Group, and the Petrol Pump Association, among others.
Streamlining Compliance Mechanisms
The Labour Commissioner sought on-ground feedback from industry heads, HR managers, and general managers regarding the existing frameworks for registration, licensing, inspections, and compliance under the Labour Codes. Detailed discussions were held on simplifying processes to ensure transparency and better coordination between different departments.
Focus on Business Reforms
It was informed during the meeting that the Labour Commissioner J&K has been nominated as the Nodal Officer for the Business Reform Action Plan (BRAP) for the Labour & Employment Department. In this role, he will oversee the coordination of reform measures, inter-departmental collaboration, and the timely submission of compliance documents to monitor progress against prescribed timelines.

Balancing Industry Needs and Worker Welfare
The participants shared their suggestions and highlighted practical challenges faced at the ground level. They lauded the department’s consultative approach, which aims to create a business-friendly environment while ensuring the protection of workers’ rights.
Prominent attendees from the industry included representatives from M/s K.C Plaza, M/s Compliances Walmart, M/s Geetanjali, M/s Monalisa, M/s Palm Island, M/s Yougal Sons, M/s B.D. Security, M/s Country Inn, and the M/s Gangyal Industrial Association.
Senior officers present at the meeting included Deputy Labour Commissioner Jammu, Shukpal Singh (JKAS); Assistant Labour Commissioner Jammu, Rupali Jasrotia (JKAS); and Assistant Labour Commissioner Central, Roopali Gandotra.
The Labour Commissioner reiterated the department’s commitment to strengthening labour welfare mechanisms while facilitating industrial growth across Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
