Kulgam : November 5 (KNS): Kulgam police detained 5 chronic offenders & Notorious drug Peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Police identified them as Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh S/O Asadullah Sheikh
R/O Ahmadabad, DH Pora, Tariq Ahmad Lone S/O Mohd Ramzan Lone R/O Tungdunoo Yaripora, Sajad Ahmad Baghat S/O Ghulam Hassan Baghat R/O Kokergund, Yaripora, Barkatullah Mir S/O Mohammad Abdullah Mir R/O Bachroo Kulgam and Aijaz Ahmad Ganie S/O Late Ghulam Ahmad Ganie R/O Gadihama, Kulgam.

They were involved in Drug Peddling and have been detained under The Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act under the orders issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, statement issued to KNS reads.

Three of these drug pedllers; Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh, Tariq Ahmad Lone and Sajad Ahmad Baghat have been lodged in District Jail Baderwah & two of them; Barkatullah Mir and Aijaz Ahmad Ganie are lodged in District Jail Rajouri to prevent them from recycling again in Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, it said.

It is pertinent to mention that under the provisions of Sec 3 of PIT NDPS Act 1988, a person engaged in Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances , which poses a serious threat to the health of a person and Society can be detained upto maximum period of one year and can be extended.

Kulgam Police has busted several Narcotic & Narco-Terror Modules and have arrested many notorious Drug peddlers in different NDPS cases during this year, statement reads.(KNS)
