KTA urges Govt to restore road connectivity, electricty on war footing basis

Srinagar, Jan 06 (KNS): Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) Wednesday urged the government to restore road connectivity and electricity on war-footing basis.

Asserting that the administration had failed to live up to the expectations of the people, KTA president Aijaz Shahdhar in a statement issued to KNS said the people were presently experiencing the 'worst-ever position' this winter. "We have experienced heavy snowfall before too but we are witnessing the worst ever position this winter. While roads in Srinagar city are yet to be cleared of snow, one can imagine the situation in rural areas of Kashmir. The government should ensure clearance of roads on war-footing basis," Shahdhar said.
The KTA suggested that the JKPDD and other concerned authorities should concentrate on improving overall power infrastructure instead of taking steps like installation of smart meters.
"The PDD should first improve its infrastructure so that the power supply does not get hit in snowfall. The department's priority should be to replace old electric poles and wires besides upgradation of power grids instead of installation of smart meters," he said.
He also demanded taking up of long term measures vis-a-vis the Srinagar - Jammu highway.
"We are already witnessing shortage of essential commodities due to national highway closure. We have several times in the past demanded that the government should take permanent measures towards ensuring year round connectivity of Kashmir valley with the other parts. Unfortunately, even a slight rainfall disrupts traffic on the national highway. Now, we will again have to brace up for frequent disruption of traffic on the national highway that will lead to price rise besides causing immense hardship to the commuters," said Shahdhar while demanding immediate rescue of stranded passengers.
