Srinagar, May 08 (KNS): Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) on Friday met Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, to discuss several issues being faced by the business community in Srinagar.
The delegation was led by KTA President Aijaz Shahdhar, who thanked the Divisional Commissioner for issuing directions to reopen the old Habba Kadal bridge for vehicular movement after repeated demands by the traders’ body.
Speaking during the meeting, Aijaz Shahdhar said that business activity in the Habba Kadal market had suffered badly due to the closure of the bridge for traffic. He said the decision to reopen the bridge for motorable traffic would improve accessibility and help increase customer footfall in the market.
The KTA delegation also raised concerns over the installation of road dividers from Natipora to Rambagh, saying the move has created difficulties for traders and customers and has negatively affected business activity in the area.
The traders’ body urged the Divisional Commissioner to look into the matter and issue directions for the removal or rationalisation of the road dividers to ensure smooth movement and better access to markets.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
During the meeting, the KTA President also highlighted the concerns of transporters, who have threatened to go on strike from May 12. The delegation said that thousands of people, including drivers and cleaners, depend on the transport sector for their livelihood and any strike would severely affect them. KTA requested the administration to listen to the grievances of transporters and resolve them at the earliest.
The delegation further demanded repair and restoration of works carried out under the Smart City Project at various locations in Srinagar. The members said damaged roads and incomplete works were causing inconvenience to traders, commuters and residents.
The delegation included Mohd Yunus Beigh, Ajaz Bisati, Niyaz Ahmad, Tariq Mir, Zahoor Bisati and Sajad Hyder.(KNS)
