Baramulla, Dec 17 (KNS): In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Baramulla Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers and recovered 10 grams of heroin during a naka checking at Mangam–Wagoora Crossing in Kreeri.
According to a press release issued, a naka was established by Sub-Division Kreeri Police around 11:45 PM last night as part of routine checking. During the operation, two suspicious individuals attempted to flee after spotting the police party but were swiftly apprehended.
The arrested persons were identified as Abdul Qayoom Lone, son of Ghulam Hassan Lone, a resident of Kalantra Bala, and Siraj Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohammed Sheikh, a resident of Sheikhpora, Kreeri.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelOn personal search, police recovered a contraband substance resembling heroin powder—8 grams from Abdul Qayoom Lone and 2 grams from Siraj Ahmad Sheikh—taking the total recovery to 10 grams. Cash amounting to ?22,500 and ?500 respectively was also seized.
Accordingly, FIR No. 90/2025 under Sections 8, 21, and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kreeri. Both accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and dismantle the wider drug network operating in the area.
Police reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against the drug menace to ensure a drug-free society.(KNS)
