KNS Impact: Industries deptt cancels registration of Modern Foods for violation of law

Srinagar, Jul 22 (KNS): Department of Industries and Commerce has cancelled the registration of Modern Foods Khrew, Pulwama, for not putting bonafide use of dressed chickens and selling the imported material to distributors fraudulently.

The development comes a day after KNS carried out a story, ‘Toll Exemption forms on sale as Food unit holders in nexus with agents cause huge losses to local poultry industry’.

Modern Foods was given registration by DIC Pulwama for Dressing of Chickens in March this year.

As per guidelines of Excise, Industries and Commerce departments, registered food units are given toll tax exemption at Lakhanpor for import of chicken to be used for dressing of chickens only.

However, the food unit has recently imported atleast 17 trucks of chicken for Dressing at the unit but didn't unload the trucks at his unit and sold them to distributors in other districts of the valley which is illegal.

According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), acting upon the reports about fraudulent sale of Challans by the unit, the industries department has de-registered the food unit.

As per officials of the industries and commerce department, a surprise inspection was conducted by the Directorate on 20th July which found the aforesaid unit non functional.

"The day book as maintained by the unit holder had no entries regarding vehicles PB 06 AS 6426 and PB 33P 9238 but the challans of the same were lying in the possession of the unit holder. The deep freezers, 9 in number at the unit, were empty except one deep freezer which had frozen chickens inside. The unit holder was in possession of challans of 17 trucks upto 19-07-2019 and the day book had entries only upto 16-07-2019. The records show a huge mismatch between procurement of raw material and sale of finished products which indicates that the raw material imported by the said unit holder is not been put to bonafide use," says the cancellation order issued by Director Industries and Commerce, Kashmir, Mehmoor Ahmad Shah.

Local poultry rearers have complained about the nexus if food unit holders and agents at Toll Tax plaza Lakhanpor as it incurred huge losses to their produce.

As per the order, Director Industries has directed the Genral Mnager DIC Pulwama to process the case for de-registration of the aforementioned unit as per the norms in vogue immediately. (KNS)
