Srinagar, Aug 22 (KNS): Apni Party President Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari on Saturday expressed profound grief and anguish over the Kishtwar tragedy, wherein a minor girl died while being taken to hospital after an alleged forced abortion.
In a post on X, the party chief termed the incident deeply painful and said it has shaken people across Jammu and Kashmir. He said the most disturbing aspect of the case is the alleged involvement of a teacher in impregnating the minor girl .
"People in Kishtwar are observing a shutdown and holding protests, demanding a transparent, time-bound investigation, and stringent action against anyone found responsible. These are entirely legitimate demands and this is the least that the administration is expected to do in this matter," Altaf Bukhari said .
He further stated that the tragedy should compel society to introspect, adding that protecting the dignity and safety of children is a collective moral responsibility .

The Apni Party chief said he was deeply hurt and disturbed, and extended his thoughts and prayers to the bereaved family.
Notably, police have arrested a government school teacher and his brother in connection with the case and registered an FIR under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act .(KNS)
