Kishanganga Power Station celebrates 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour

 Srinagar, Aug 15(KNS): The 80th Independence Day was celebrated at the Kishanganga Power Station in Gurez with patriotic fervour, with NHPC General Manager-in-Charge Rajesh Ranjan unfurling the National Flag and taking the salute of a parade presented by a CISF contingent.

 
The ceremony was attended by NHPC General Manager (Civil) Arun Kumar Soni, officers and employees of NHPC, CISF personnel, contract workers and a large number of local villagers, including women and children.
 
Addressing the gathering, Ranjan extended Independence Day greetings and paid tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence.
 
He said India has made remarkable progress since independence in sectors including science and technology, education, agriculture, healthcare, sports and energy and is moving towards becoming a self-reliant and developed nation.
 
Highlighting NHPC's contribution to the energy sector, Ranjan said the corporation is playing a leading role in hydropower development and is expanding its presence in solar, wind and pumped-storage projects.
 
NHPC power stations generated 23,306 million units (MU) of electricity during the 2025-26 financial year, while the Kishanganga Power Station generated 1,550 MU, its highest annual generation since commissioning, he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
 
The power station also achieved its highest-ever daily generation of 8.172 MU on July 13, 2026, Ranjan said, appreciating the contribution of officers, employees, CISF personnel and other associates.
 
He said six of NHPC's 31 power stations are located in Jammu and Kashmir, making the corporation an important contributor to the region's development and energy requirements.
 
Ranjan also highlighted the power station's corporate social responsibility initiatives in the region. The new building of the Army Goodwill School at Gurez, constructed through NHPC's CSR funds, was recently inaugurated, while several other developmental works are under progress.
 
He urged the employees and other stakeholders to continue contributing towards the country's progress and maintain the same level of dedication and excellence in the operation of the Kishanganga Power Station.(KNS).
