Budgam June 4:(KNS) Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Shahbaz Mirza on Friday suspended Range Officer Wildlife department Ompora for dereliction of duties after the four-year-old girl was mauled to death by a leopard in the district.

The family of the deceased will be paid a compensation of Rs 3 lac within a week DC Budgam told to KNS. 

Deputy Commissioner Budgam also informed KNS the district administration Budgam has suspended Range Officer Wildlife department for dereliction of duties. 

Leopard kills minor girl, Mauled body found in Ompura Budgam

 

The body of 4-year old girl who was missing from yesterday was found today in Ompora area of Budgam.

 

She was identified as Adda Mir daughter of Mir Yasir resident of Ompura Budgam who went missing yesterday evening.

After receiving the information, Budgam police along with locals & Wildlife Department had constituted various teams for tracing the girl.

 Police locals and wild life employees continued search operation during entire night in the area. 

Police also used sniffer dogs to trace the girl amid dense bushy Nursery situated in the locality.

After a massive searches launched by police & locals to trace out the missing girl, today morning the mauled body of the girl was found in the nearby nursery. Preliminary investigation suggests that the girl has been attacked and mauled by some wild animal ( probably Leopard, officials said.

The dead body was handed over to her parents.

In the backdrop of incident at Housing Coloney Ompora Budgam, wherein a 4 years old baby girl was attacked by some wild animal ( most probably leopard) and mauled to death and subsequently her body was recovered from the nearby dense bushy Nursery today a meeting was chaired by DC Budgam with participation of following officers Sr. Superintendent of Police Budgam, Divisional Forest Office, Budgam Wild life Warden, Budgam."

 

The meeting decided 

DFO, PP Division Budgam will ensure immediate removal of fallen material and other cultural operations at Ompora Forests and other risk areas forthwith in order to avoid to any further loss of life and property in the area. Commissioner Secretary to Govt. Forest Ecology and Environmental J&K has assured sanction within two days, spokesperson said.

 

" DFO , PP Division Budgam will immediately take steps for erection and strengthening of existing chain-link fencing at Ompora forests and will also submit DPR to the higher authorities for sanction of funds. He will also process the proposal/ case for sanction of thinning of the forest immediately.Wild life Warden Budgam will deploy staff well equipped with machinery for elimination of the Wild Animal (Leopard) which has turned man-eater after obtaining sanction from the competent authority," statement issued said.

 

 "Wild Life Staff will be deputed in the periphery of the Ompora Forests for patrolling and awareness among general public regarding roaming of the leopard in the area. She will take immediate steps for capturing of the roaming animal in the forests. Any laxity on this score shall be dealt with strictly.Wild Life Warden Budgam will immediately prepare compensation case of 4 year old girl who was mauled to death by a leopard on 03-06-2021 and get the case sanctioned from competent authority within 03 days positively so that necessary compensation is paid to family of deceased," statement said.
