Srinagar July 10 (KNS): Paying floral tributes to her mother Madre Meherban Begum Sheikh Mohd Abdullah on her 21st death anniversary, the J&K ANC President Begum Khalida Shah recalled the yomen services her mother rendered fir the downtrodden people of J& K State, in particular the role she played for introducing the concept of girl child education in the state way back from late 40’s along with upliftment of the Guggar & Pahari community.
Had it not been for her & her team of dedicated noble women of Kashmir, the girl education would not have seen the light of the day.
Today our women folk & our youngsters coming out of colleges, excelling in their highly specialised areas of health, education, IT, engendering, administrative, arts, crafts & various other specialities owe their success to Begum Sherekashmir & her those dedicated band of great women who laid the foundation of girl child education when it was taboo & unheard of in this part of the subcontinent.
Begum Khalida Shah also recalled the services rendered by her mother throughout her life that was dedicated towards upliftment of women & girl child when she setup the prestigious Miskeen Bagh complex for skill development of orphan girls with hostel facilities for poor girls coming from far flung areas into Srinagar for education & skill development.
The ANC Chief specially recalled the great service & vital role Madre M
eherban played along with Lady Mountbatten during the bloody days of partition when they rescued women & young girls from kidnappers, looters & arsonists & returned them safely to their homes.
The contributions of Begum Sherekashmir can never be repaid by the people of J&K, especially the women folk.
Let us all pray for Magfirat for the Pious & noble Madere Meherban & let us pledge to help in eradicating the menace of abuse, dowrey, forced marriage, drug abuse from our society. Let us encourage a good education system for mass education with skill development for our girls which would be the best tribute for Begum Sherekashmir.(KNS)
