Srinagar, Apr 05 (KNS): The New York based political advocacy group Kashmir Global Council (KGC) has welcomed the statement of US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, wherein she said the US would try and “find its place” in efforts to de-escalate Indo-Pak tensions and not wait till "something happens", indicating that President Donald Trump could play a role in such endeavors. The KGC has also expressed its disappointment over India's belligerent reaction to the statement.
In a statement to KNS, Dr. Humaira Gowher, Chief Spokesperson of KGC who welcomed Nikki Haley’s statement said that both India and Pakistan have failed to resolve the issue for the last 70 years. She further said ,it is time that someone impresses upon the two nuclear power states that their differences need to be moderated by a third party and that is exactly what the US has perceptively and rightly shown their willingness to do.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The Chief Spokesperson, quoting the KGC` Vice President, Mufti Showkat Farooqi, Attorney at Law, said “ India should have taken this as an opportunity to resolve the long standing issue of Kashmir through international help and willingly accepted rather than rejecting any mediation. The two nuclear armed nations, who need to address issues of poverty and development, must realize that peace between them will alleviate the sufferings of people of Kashmir and that of more than 500 million people living in India and 70 million in Pakistan under poverty line”.
The statement said that Kashmir Global Council will continue to pursue its political advocacy for Kashmir and in coming months will seek to brief policy makers through meetings and awareness programs. (KNS)
