Police Thursday baton charged the protesting female teachers of Kasturba Gandhi Blika Vidalyas (KGBVs) and forced them to vacate the premises of Directorate of School Education.
Eyewitnesses told KNS dozens of female teachers appointed under ReT scheme in KGBVs are protesting for the last three days over their demands for regularization in the premises of Directorate of School Education. The agitating teachers had to face the sticks of angered cops when they took out a process from Press Enclave Srinagar to the Directorate of School Education where police cane charged them when they tried to force their entry into the premises of the Director School Education Kashmir.
The agitating teachers of KGBVs staged a massive demonstration at civil secretariat in the late afternoon hours
President KGBV Forum Mymona Khan said, “Over half a dozen female teachers were injured in police action yesterday and today. We had started our indefinite day and night protest from Tuesday morning. On Wednesday a police party from Kothi Bagh police station arrived in Directorate of School Education premises and forced us to vacate the ground. When we refused, they resorted to baton charge and bundled us into police vehicles. We were lodged in women’s police station.”
It is pertinent to mention here that the teachers of KGBVs engaged on ReT pattern are protesting against the government for denying the right to regularization and were shifted from the Directorate of School Education to Women’s Police Station on Tuesday evening and again on Wednesday afternoon.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe insiders in education department without wishing to be named for the obvious reasons said ‘though government has committed to regularize over 700 teachers of KGBVs but the unprecedented delay caused by the government has forced the teachers to stage daily sit ins (dharnas) at the the directorate of school education and press enclave Srinagar”.
Stating that though over ninety KGBV teachers have been regularized by the government in previous years , the insiders said due to the detection of some deviation of the policy guidelines of the Government of India on working of KGBVs at a later stage the present government is overtly and covertly denying the right to regularization to over seven hundred KGBV teachers.
Education Minister Nayeem Akhter said, “We are examining the issue of the regularisation of KGBV teachers. We will shortly resolve the issue and a decision in this connection will be announced soon but the teachers will have to undergo written test as per the directions of High Court.”
It is in place to mention here that J&K High Court in one of its recent judgment directed the state government to ask such ReT teachers to face a written test who have passed the degree examination from the universities of the other states of the country excepting Jammu & Kashmir
