KCSDS warns Govt against delimitation

Srinagar, Jun 13 (KNS): Kashmir Centre for Social and Developmental Studies (KCSDS) on Thursday warned government against the delimitation of assembly constituencies, saying that it is goaded on to act by them against all principles of justice an democracy.

The statement issued tom KNS reads that delimitation of assembly constituencies is the new agenda floated by Sangh Parivar and its drooling blind followers. “Aggressive TV debates, columns, opinions and views have started appearing in print and social media prodding the new government in effect to turn the numerical majority into a political minority  in J&K. Imaginary grounds, bizarre justifications, outlandish claims are peddled to transplant  brute majoritarianism  of India  in Kashmir   to further politically disempower the muslim majority.”

And yet the govt intriguingly comes up with the allegation that it is Kashmiri political parties who are raking up the issue to deceive people, it said, adding that “What would the govt say in response to one such write up in the First Post on 7th June2019 by some Sant Kumar Sharma titled: Delimitation of J&KAssembly seats will end the partisanship that favours Kashmir. He has not only twisted facts and figures to justify the constitution of a delimitation commission to reorganise State Assembly constituencies to give double the seats to Jammu from that of Kashmir but given weird, absolutely undemocratic and completely unjust formulas to make minority into majority.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel”

KCSDS said the most glaring fascist weird idea that he floats is that geographical area besides population should be given representation. “Since Jammu has larger area than Kashmir valley, it should get double its seats. According to this norm then Ladakh has the largest area of 59000 sq kms and    should get 51 seats, Jammu should get 22 seats for an area of 26000 sq kms and Kashmir only 14 seats as it covers an area of 16000 sq kms only. The author deliberately confuses geographical compactness with geographical area to propose disempowerment of Kashmiri Muslims. Then he goes on to say that each segment in Kashmir has fewer votes than Jammu ignoring the fact that Kashmiris have been boycotting elections and therefore do not register themselves in voter lists.”

“We want to tell this govt that every day new narratives are manufactured in NewDelhi through TV debates and social and print media to dislodge, disempower and denigrate Kashmiris to obfuscate their struggle for their rights. We are not fond of manufacturing false narratives. We have truth on our side for which we are struggling. We are compelled to respond to the  falsehoods being perpetrated  every day.We want to live in just peace which could  dawn only by restoring people’s rights and not by snatching then under one pretext or the other,” it added. (KNS)
