Srinagar 15 Sep. (KNS):In a shocking incident at Deshbhakt University in Punjab, Kashmiri students were reportedly beaten by university staff and local goons allegedly hired by the staff after students raised concerns over the university's admission practices.
According to the Kashmir News Service (KNS) The students complaint university for admitting more than the prescribed 100 seats allocated by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) for nursing courses. When students raised questions against new extra admissions, the university staff ignored it off, claiming it's not a serious issue, just a concern and responsibilities of management of the university.
A group of kashmiri Students while Talking to KNS over Telephone said that the Trouble increased when the university suddenly changed the students' ERP course from nursing to another field. However, tensions mounted as the university separated male and female students into separate classes and faculties. University officials claimed they were creating separate colleges for men and women. But In the meantime, male students were later admitted to the female section, leading to concerns and questions of earlier commitments made by the university, when student asked for what's now happening, university staff start telling students to take refunds, even after three years of study.they added.
In response, students staged a peaceful protest against the university, which had been ongoing for three days. A horrified, female Student told KNS over telephone, that the Staff members including hired Local goons dragged us, beat us like animals. Disturbingly, no FIR has been registered by the police, and no arrests have been made in connection with the assault. She said.
When KNS contacted, SSP Fathegrath Sahib in Punjab District, Ms. Ravjot Garewal, IPS, she assured that the police is taking measures to ensure the safety of the students, although no written complaint had been received yet.
Meanwhile When KNS futher contacted the DySP Investigation concerned of Fathegrath sahib in Punjab he said that, over 100 lady constables and additional security forces had been deployed at the college to prevent further incidents. He added KNS that the police is closely monitoring the investigation into the alleged fraud with students, which would also involve the university management.
When KNS, asked that , Despite the evidence of attack, assault on students circulating on social media, why not FIR had been filed yet. He However Said that the police pledged to take strict action against those found responsible. The matter has been taken up by the Deputy Commissioner Fatehgarh sahib of Punjab and investigation into the alleged fraud against the students has been set into the motion.
Meanwhile, the students have appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of Jammu and Kashmir to intervene and protect their academic futures, as they seek justice and resolution in this distressing situation. (KNS)
