Kashmiri IPS officer Sheema Nabi Qasba tops national intelligence programme

Srinagar, Nov 28 (KNS): Kashmiri IPS officer Sheema Nabi Qasba has secured the first position in a national joint intelligence training programme conducted for mid-senior level officers from multiple intelligence and internal security organisations.

Qasba, a 2016-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Jammu & Kashmir cadre, is currently serving on central deputation with the Intelligence Bureau as Assistant Director. The programme focuses on inter-agency coordination, strategic planning, leadership capacity and institutional integration. Selection for participation is considered highly competitive, and performance is evaluated through academic and professional assessments.

Officials said Qasba achieved the top ranking in the national cohort following a rigorous evaluation process. Before proceeding on central deputation, she served as Superintendent of Police in Rajouri and Handwara. The second position in the programme was secured by Soumyabrata Sengupta, currently serving as Deputy Director on a special national assignment. He has earlier held an advisory role with the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of External Affairs, and later served under the Ministry of Home Affairs in specialised responsibilities.

Senior officials familiar with the training described it as part of an institutional effort to strengthen coordination and leadership preparedness within India’s national security framework.

For Jammu & Kashmir, Qasba’s achievement holds significance as it highlights the increasing participation of Kashmiri women in national services. Her career continues to be viewed as a reference point for young aspirants, particularly girls in the Valley.(KNS).
