Srinagar, Oct 27 (KNS): Complete shutdown is being observed in Kashmir Tuesday to protest against landing of the Indian army in the state on this day in 1947. The call for shutdown was given by separatists.
Shops, business units and educational institutions have been shut, while public transport is off the roads. However, a thin movement of private vehicles is being witnessed in some towns.
Government offices also witnessed thin attendance of employees as majority of them could not make it to their offices due to absence of public transport.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Minor protests with stone pelting broke out in Nowhatta, Saraf kadal, Kani Kadal, and Habba Kadal in downtown in the afternoon. But the police and CRPF forces dispersed the protesters.
On October 27 1947, Indian army landed in Srinagar after the last Maharaja Hari Singh “signed the conditional Instrument of Accession” with India. The accession also had backing of National Conference leader Sheikh Abdullah.
All exams scheduled for today were postponed by educational institutes. (KNS)
