Srinagar, Aug 15 (KNS): Kashmir valley Monday observed shutdown on August 15 amid official I-Day functions held in all the district headquarters.
The shutdown call was given by the joint resistance leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik.
Shops, business establishments were closed while as the traffic on major roads in the city and in towns was off the roads.
Heavy contingents of police and paramilitary forces were deployed in towns and Srinagar to prevent protests by people on the day.
The authorities had imposed restrictions in several parts in Kashmir including in five police station jurisdictions of Nowhatta, Rainawari, Khanyar, M R Gunj and Safakadal in Srinagar.
Restrictions were imposed in Kulgam, Shopian, Pulwama and in some parts of Budgam districts to prevent protests on the day against the killings of three Hizb militants and two civilians in Shopian encounter on Saturday.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
In Srinagar’s Bakshi stadium, a heavy security cover was imposed to allow incident-free function where Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti unfurled the tricolour.
Mobile phone services and internet services were snapped across Kashmir as a precautionary measure till forenoon and were lifted in Srinagar after the I-day functions were over.
Train service remained suspended in Kashmir in the wake of shutdown call.
A police official told KNS that the day remained peaceful and incident-free and official independence functions were held in all the district headquarters of the valley. (KNS)
