A complete shutdown was observed in Kashmir on Friday to protest against the burning of Quranic verses and subsequent alleged harassment of Muslims in Rajouri. People said the strike was observed in solidarity with the Muslim brethren of Pir Panjal region.
Shops, business establishments and educational institutions in Srinagar and other major towns of Valley remained closed and there was thin movement of traffic on roads. Government and private offices too witnessed thin attendance.

The strike, called by the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), hit the normal life in Valley, with people remaining mostly indoors. KTMF President Mohammed Yasin Khan had appealed to people to observe a complete Kashmir Bandh in support for “our Muslim brethren”. “This hartal is for the cause of our Deen, Islam,” he had said.
Reports said the shutdown was mostly peaceful with no untoward incident in any part of the state.
