Complete shutdown was observed in Kashmir on Sunday on a call given by Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani to protest the killing of a three-year-old boy by unidentified gunmen in Sopore.
The shutdown hit the normal life as shops, business establishments, petrol pumps, and educational institutions remained closed in Srinagar and all other major towns of Valley, reports said. The intensity of shutdown in North Kashmir’s Sopore, Pattan, Bandipora and Baramulla townships was severely observed.
In Srinagar and on roads connecting district headquarters, the public transport was more-or-less off the roads, while private cars, cabs and auto-rickshaws plied normally.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIn Srinagar’s Sunday market, some vendors did put up their stalls.
The protest, led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, condemned the killing of the boy, Burhan, who succumbed to injuries after being injured in an attack by suspected militants which also left his father Bashir Ahmad dead in Sopore on Friday.
Police meanwhile said that the situation remained normal throughout Valley. “The situation remained complete peaceful across Valley and no untoward incident was reported anywhere,” IGP Kashmir Syed Mujtabha Geelani told KNS.
