Kashmir fruit growers urge DGP to act against substandard fertiliser dealers

Srinagar, Jan 24 (KNS): Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union chairman Bashir Ahmad Bashir has urged Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir RR Swain to take action against dealers of substandard fertilisers in the Kashmir Valley the way action has been taken against drug dealers. 

In a letter to DGP RR Swain, the chairman stated that recently hundreds of bags of spurious fertilisers were confiscated by the authorities in Sopore and Kulgam. 

“In fact the spray of pesticides, fertilisers in fruit orchards starts in March every year and these commodities are always stored in bulk quantities by the concerned dealers well in advance. Since substandard fertilisers have already been confiscated by the authorities, the Valley based fruit growers and dealers have apprehension of substandard fertilisers are available with the mafia dealers.” 
?He stated that the substandard fertilisers will not only damage fruit orchards but indirectly it has effects on human lives as well. 

“Since Horticulture Industry is treated as backbone of J&K economy, substandard fertilisers is, therefore, a great threat to the economy as well. We request to initiate action against these dealers on the same pattern as drug peddlers have been treated,” he said. (KNS)
