Presides over Legal Awareness programme on Implementation of NALSA Scheme

Srinagar, Oct 05 (KNS):  Judge High Court of J&K, Executive Chairman J&K Legal Services Authority, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey  today inaugurated a Legal Aid clinic at  School of Legal Studies, Central University of Kashmir Tullmulla Ganderbal in presence of vice Chancellor of Central University Kashmir, Prof. Mehraj Ud-Din.

Besides, Justice Magrey also presided over Awareness programme on Implementation of NALSA Scheme (Legal Services to Senior Citizens) organised by District Legal Services Authority Ganderbal under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and J&K Legal Services Authority conducted at Legal  at School of Legal Studies, Central Kashmir Tullmulla.

During the event, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey spoke on the Rights of Senior Citizens and underlined that Law students should actively participate in legal awareness programmes more particularly meant for welfare of Senior citizens.

He also spoke on various welfare schemes meant for the benefit of Senior Citizens and stressed on the active role of law students in society. Justice Magrey stressed upon students to engage in legal awareness programmes so that marginalized section of the society is benefitted from young budding law students.

He further stated that free legal aid is to be provided to weaker sections of the society, women and child  so that the doors of justice are open to all irrespective of their status in life.

Vice Chencellor Central University of Kashmir, Prof. Mehraj Ud Din Mir, Registrar CUK Prof. Mohammad Afzal Zargar, Head and Dean, School of Legal Studies Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, Chairperson District Legal Services Authority Ganderbal Ms. Shazia Tabasum, ADDC Ganderbal, Pir Muzafar Ahmad, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Ganderbal Ms. Tabasum, SP Ganderbal,  Nikhil Borkar, Staff of DLSA, PLVs of Ganderbal, faculty member of CUK and large number of Students also participated in the said programme.

Prof. Mehraj Ud Din Mir, Vice Chancellor CUK stated that legal awareness programmes were also conducted  in past. He said Law students should be engaged in such kind of legal awareness programmes so that people belonging to inaccessible area are benefitted and people belonging to marginalized sections of the society are benefitted.

Dean School of Legal Studies Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir spoke on the maintenance and welfare scheme of parents and Senior Citizens Act. 2007. He also stated Constitution of India guarantees right to live with dignity and includes right of Senior Citizens to live dignified life. More and more such kind of programmes shall be conducted in future so that students and the society as a whole gets benefitted. (KNS)
