Srinagar, Nov 23 (KNS): Junaid Qureshi (Prominent Columnist and Human Rights Activist) has resigned from Jammu Kashmir Democratic Liberation Party (JKDLP).
In a statement issued to KNS, Junaid said that from the 1st of December he has been appointed as a Director at an Amsterdam based European research Think-Tank, which specifically focuses its research on South-Asia in general and Terrorism, Indo-Pak relations and the Jammu & Kashmir conflict in particular. He further added that as his new position is absolutely non-partisan and requires total independence, he cannot be affiliated with any political organization.
Junaid Qureshi added that he consulted the Chairman of JKDLP, Hashim Qureshi first and only resigned after his total support and advice.
In his new role, Junaid Qureshi will be responsible for the publication of research-papers, partnerships with European policy-making Institutions and the inclusion of the (Kashmiri) youth at international platforms in order to formulate strategies that shape public discourse concerning the region and facilitate innovative alternative narratives in order to promote peace, security, and sustainable development in South Asia in general and Jammu & Kashmir in particular.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Junaid Qureshi said that this way he will be able to continue his political/writing career in a much more institutionalized, organized and effective way and at the same time provide the youth of J&K opportunities to interact with international organizations. He added that he will keep writing his fortnightly column, ‘Plain Talk’, in daily Kashmir Images.
Confirming the resignation of Junaid, DLP chief, Hashim Qureshi told KNS that the resignation of Junaid was accepted as instead of representing Kashmir through DLP, it was better to represent Kashmir on international level via International NGO.
“Junaid talked to me before tendering his resignation from the party and I allowed him to resign and to join International NGO through which he will represent Kashmir,” Qureshi said. (KNS)
