Srinagar, Jun 19 (KNS): Journalist Ubaid Malik, who sustained serious injuries after a deodar tree fell on him in north Kashmir's Tangmarg area last month, underwent a fourth surgery at a government hospital here on Thursday, his family members said.
Malik, a senior correspondent with Early Times, was critically injured in the accident and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Jammu and Kashmir Government's JVC Hospital in Srinagar.
Doctors had earlier performed three major surgeries on him during his prolonged hospitalization. After showing signs of recovery, he was discharged with advice to return after two weeks for a planned follow-up procedure.
The fourth surgery was successfully carried out on Thursday, family members and friends said.
During his treatment, Jammu and Kashmir Health Minister Sakeena Itoo visited the hospital on multiple occasions and met Malik and his family members. She also directed hospital authorities to ensure all necessary medical assistance and care for the injured journalist, they said.
Several ministers, legislators, political leaders, journalists and social activists had also visited the hospital to enquire about Malik's health after he was admitted to the ICU.
Family members, colleagues and well-wishers thanked the doctors and hospital staff for their efforts in his treatment and appealed to the public to pray for his speedy recovery.
"We request everyone to keep Ubaid Malik in their prayers and wish him a swift return to good health," a family member said.(KNS).
