JKPM oppose construction of clock tower at Lal Chowk Anantnag, terms it a wastage of Public Exchequer

Anantnag, Jan 14 (KNS): J&K Peoples Movement has criticized the decision of the Anantnag Municipality regarding the construction of a clock tower at Lal Chowk Anantnag.

In a statement issued to KNS, JKPM Vice President Solicitor Syed Iqbal Tahir said that the construction of clock tower at Lal Chowk Anantnag is a wastage of public exchequer which should be used towards other pressing development needs of the people of Anantnag, given that the municipality has always complained about lack of resources.

“We have an existing water fountain present at the same spot. The fountain was constructed a few years back but was not maintained by the Municipality. We want to know why it was left to decay and public exchequer was wasted. As far as the clock tower is concerned, we have heard that it will cost around Rs 50 lacs. This could have been used for the basic needs of people such as the construction of modern toilets in public places. The concern is shared on a large scale by people of Anantnag including trade bodies and civil society members, Iqbal Tahir said in his statement. (KNS)
