Srinagar, Oct 22 (KNS) Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hamid Karra has sought the intervention of Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Chancellor Lt Gen (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain to address the grievances of contractual faculty members, citing "uncertainty" over their livelihoods and professional futures.
In a letter to the Chancellor accessed news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) Tariq Karra highlighted the difficulties faced by the contractual faculty, stating that these teachers have been contributing to the education of the youth despite ongoing uncertainty regarding their future.
He also raised concerns about the "effectiveness" of the University's existing administrative approach and leadership, arguing that it does not foster an environment of trust, transparency, and academic stability.
"I request your kind intervention on the following issues: Enhancement of honorarium, weightage in regular recruitment, and annual extension of contracts," Karra wrote in the letter accessed KNS.
The JKPCC chief demanded that the monthly honorarium be enhanced to Rs 57,000, in line with applicable UGC norms and standards, to ensure fair compensation for their qualifications.

Furthermore, he urged the university to provide appropriate preferential points to candidates with contractual teaching experience during regular recruitment to recognize their service and institutional experience.
JKPCC chief Tariq Karra also requested that instead of repeated three- or six-month extensions, annual extensions should be granted subject to satisfactory performance.
He emphasized that a transparent and predictable assessment mechanism would provide much-needed stability, allowing the faculty to focus on teaching and research without constant anxiety.
"You will appreciate that the university's strength lies in the people who serve it. Those who educate our young generation deserve fairness, dignity and a reasonable measure of professional security," the letter read.
Urging the Chancellor to look into the matter sympathetically, Tariq Karra called for a "compassionate and constructive" response from the university administration without further delay. (KNS)
