Srinagar, Aug 31 (KNS) A prominent political leader from Jammu and Kashmir on Monday urged the Union Territory administration to ensure fair and early resolution of the medical interns' stipend issue, asserting that the young doctors are not seeking any favour but are demanding recognition for their work.
The General Secretary of the Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC) and President of the All Jammu & Kashmir Shia Association Imran Ansari expressed serious concern over the matter, saying the interns work under extremely demanding conditions, often undertaking exhausting duties and shifts stretching up to 36 hours. He said despite their crucial role in attending to patients and helping hospitals function effectively, their stipend remains considerably lower than that offered in several other parts of India for comparable responsibilities.

He urged the government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, to take the issue seriously and engage with the protesting interns for an early resolution.
"Those who dedicate their lives to healing and serving humanity deserve dignity, recognition and fair support," he said, while also recalling the Quranic teaching that saving one life is akin to saving all mankind.
The interns, who have been holding protests at Government Medical Colleges and hospitals across the Valley, are, however, not satisfied with the assurances and have continued with their agitation, accusing the government of "misleading" them. (KNS)
