Srinagar, Oct 21 (KNS): Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh on Wednesday said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has travelled a long way to strengthen the peace in Jammu and Kashmir, adding the mission of JKP needs more dedication so that long-lasting peace in the region is ensured.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), DGP who was speaking at a Police Commemoration Day function held in Zewan Srinagar said that we have travelled a long way to strengthen the peace in Jammu and Kashmir. He said this is the right time when we have to advance the mission with more dedication so that a long-lasting peace is ensured in J&K.
The DGP said that the forces working with J&K Police faced various challenges but they stood the ground and overcame these challenges with fortitude. He said that work of J&K Police is being acknowledged at different levels and added that the Prime Minister of India and Home Minister of India have time and again appreciated the peace efforts of J&K Police and other security forces working in J&K.
The National Police Day was observed on Wednesday across Jammu and Kashmir, where rich tributes were paid to slain police personnel. At Zewan Police Complex the function was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha who was chief guest at the occasion. Contingents of different forces including J&K Police, ITBP, CRPF, BSF, SSB, IRP, JKAP, women contingent and Pipe and Brass bands participated in the parade.
The DGP while speaking on the occasion thanked the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha and his advisors, Chief Secretary J&K, civil, police and security forces officers, personnel, media persons for attending the commemoration function and remembering the slain police personnel.
The DGP while paying rich tributes to the slain of different forces said that this day is very sacred occasion for all of us as we are remembering the sacrifices of those brave hearts who sacrificed their precious lives for safeguarding the integrity and sovereignty of the nation and for protecting the dignity, life & property of our own people. He said that this day is originally caure to observe every year in the memory of the 10 brave hearts of CRPF who on October 21, 1959, sacrificed their lives while holding an attack by Chinese Army at Hot Springs in Ladakh and added that since then around 35000 personnel of different forces have sacrificed their lives in the country, including over six thousand in J&K.
The DGP said that since 1989, 1568 personnel from Jammu and Kashmir Police sacrificed their lives while fighting militancy and protecting the interests of people. He also recalled the sacrifice in the line of duty of Inspector Mohammed Ashraf Bhat who was killed on 19th October evening.
Referring to the welfare measures, the DGP said that a number of measures have been approved and taken for serving police personnel as well as for the families of slain police personnel in recent past and added that more steps with regard to welfare would be taken in near future.
While speaking to the media the DGP said that he is proud of the fact the J&K Police personnel without caring for their lives are performing their duties in whatever circumstances for safeguarding the interest of people and the country. He said that people are with forces and all the evil designs of militant groups would be dealt with strongly. He said that forces are fighting against militancy efficiently and added that in future forces will act even more strongly to thwart evil attempts of militants.
Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha who was the chief guest at UT level function held at Armed Police Complex, Zewan led civil, police, CAPF officers/personnel in paying rich tributes to the slain police and forces personnel. DGP J&K, Shri Dilbag Singh read out the names of martyrs. Advisors to Hon’ble Governor, Shri R. R Bhatnagar, Shri Baseer Ahmad Khan, Chief Secretary J&K, B. V. R. Subrahmanyam, ADGsP, Dr. B. Srinivas, A. K. Choudhary, S. J. M. Gillani, Abdul Ghani Mir, Div. Com. Kashmir, Shri Pandurang K. Pole, IGsP, Dr. S. D. Singh Jamwal, M. K. Sinha, Vijay Kumar, Alok Kumar, S. Anand Jain, S. Ahfadul Mujtaba, member PSC, IGs of CRPF, Shri Rajesh Mishra, Shri Deepak Ratan, Dr. Darakshan Andrabi, Chairperson of Waqf Development Committee and other senior police, CAPF and Civil officers were present on the occasion.
The day was observed with ceremonial parades at all district, wing and unit headquarters across Jammu and Kashmir where contingent of different forces participated in the parade. A large number of senior police officers, retired police personnel, members of the martyrs families and members of civil society participated at the occasion. (KNS)
