Geneva, 29 Sep (KNS): Junaid Qureshi represented JKDLP during the 30th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva and spoke at a Seminar ‘Human Rights situation in South Asia’. In his address, he condemned the ongoing hostilities and shelling across the LOC which has killed hundreds of Kashmiris on both sides and destroyed thousands of homes.
He asked the International community and Human Rights defenders present what besides the controlled destruction of our homes and controlled killings of our children, is actually being controlled at the Line of Control.
According to a statement issued to KNS, he proposed to amend the name of this line of division and said that this line of division has become a ‘Line out of Control’ for Kashmiris, as whenever the nuclear neighbours feel the need to display military might or under the pretext of protecting national interests, it is always the unfortunate Kashmiri who has to suffer. Junaid Qureshi also condemned the killings in Pakistan Administered Kashmir and Indian Administered Kashmir by the hands of ‘unidentified gunmen’. He appealed the international community and the human rights apparatus at the UN to help Kashmiris in identifying this ‘unidentified gunman’ and stopping him from killing our children. Junaid Qureshi expressed his surprise why the tragic death of Aylan Kurdi was able to wake up the whole world from its oblivious sleep and the killing of Burhan, a three year old Kashmiri boy, has not yet been able to dent the conscience of the universal claimants of Human Rights.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Junaid Qureshi said that he believes that the Kashmir-Issue undoubtedly requires a political solution, but first the people of Kashmir, India and Pakistan are in urgent need of liberation from fear and uncertainty. The gun culture should first be stopped with the assistance of the UN and International Human Rights Defenders, before it annihilates another generation of Kashmiris.
While demanding the revocation of laws like PPO, National Action Plan, AFSPA and PSA from Pakistan Administered- and Indian Administered Kashmir, he requested the United Nations and the International Community to facilitate an atmosphere of tranquility, mutual trust and dialogue between India and Pakistan which could pave the way for an institutionalized Intra-Kashmir Dialogue. While reiterating that Jammu & Kashmir is not only the Valley and does not only belong to the Muslim population of the Valley, he proposed an institutionalized Intra-Kashmir dialogue amongst all Kashmiris living in the Valley, Ladakh, Jammu, Pakistan Administered Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan as equal stakeholders in order to reach consensus regarding the future of Jammu & Kashmir.
