Srinagar, May 29 (KNS): Under their joint programme series ‘Naamwar’ J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Radio Kashmir Srinagar organized an interaction with eminent broadcaster, journalist and author, Nayeema Ahmad Mehjoor at Seminar Hall of the Academy here on Tuesday.
In his welcome speech Secretary JKAACL, Dr. Aziz Hajini said that the aim of hosting interactions under Naamwar was to highlight the contribution of unsung personalities of the State to their respective fields of specialization.
“The popularity of this joint initiative shows that we have been successful in our endeavour of affording purposeful interactions between people and their role models,” Hajini said. Echoing similar views, Station Director, Radio Kashmir, Srinagar Sayed Humayun Qaisar said that such was the popularity of Naamwar that it was being tuned-in by people throughout the world.
“We receive e-mails and feedback from far off places like America, and the Middle East besides from within the country, which itself attests that Radio has a wider listenership,” he said.

Recalling her life Nayeema Mehjoor said that her tryst with media began rather early with her having been roped in for yesteryear’s immensely popular morning show “Zoona Dab”. “This morning show of Radio Kashmir Srinagar proved to be very useful in boosting my confidence and grooming me for much bigger things in life,” the eminent broadcaster said.
Earlier, G. N. Shakir presented an in-depth paper on life and works of Nayeema Ahmad Mehjoor. Later a question-answer session was held in which the members of audience interacted with her. As a token of affection the organizers presented her a shawl and citation. The programme was attended by a large number of people from various walks of life. Prominent among those who attended the event included former CIC, GR Sufi, Prof. Mohd. Zaman Azurda, SD Bajad, Waheed Jeelani, Mohd Amin Bhat, GR Azad and Mushtaq Ahmad Mushtaq.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by broadcaster Rashid Nizami. The event was coordinated by Deputy Secretary JKAACL, Syed Shakeel-ur-Rehman. (KNS)
