Srinagar, Apr 23 (KNS): J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Saturday celebrated World Book Day at SP College Srinagar here.
As part of the event besides hosting a paper reading session, a book exhibition was also held.
The World Book Day is observed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization annually on April 23.
Presided over by noted writer, Ghulam Nabi Khayal, Head Department of Library and Information Sciences, Islamic University, Awantipora, Prof. Wajih Ahmad Alvi, and Principal SP College, Srinagar, Dr. Mohamemd Yaseen Shah were also in the presidium.
While giving his presidential remarks Khayal said that hosting of paper reading sessions and book exhibitions helps to spread awareness among people about importance of books.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The main highlight of today’s event was keynote address given by Head Department of Library and Information Sciences, Islamic University, Prof. Wajih Ahmad Alvi. In his address Prof. Alvi highlighted various issues related to books and reading culture.
On the occasion students of SP College Srinagar - Bilal Naik, Roaf Yaseen Shah and Bilal Shah also presented their views.
A large number of people, mostly local authors, scholars and book lovers visited the JKAACL book stalls and encouraged the effort of the Academy in highlighting the essence of the day. (KNS)
