‘Devise strategies for implementation of Section 4 of RTI Act’

Srinagar, Mar 25 (KNS): Concluding the RTI Week, J&K RTI Movement and CHRI Delhi held an event at Kashmir Law College, Nowshera, Srinagar on “Awareness of RTI Act-2009”. Former CIC of Centre and present Chairperson CHRI, Wajahat Habibullah, addressed the budding lawyers to look on RTI from a legal perspective than holding the common notion of RTI in Administrative perspective.
He also urged law students to stress on devising strategies for the implementation of Section 4 of RTI Act (Proactive Disclosure) so as to make required information available in Public domain.
Abdul Salam, Principal, Kashmir Law College in his inaugurating address, made students familiar with the history and background of RTI Law in Jammu and Kashmir.
He also expressed need and exquisiteness of RTI Act-2009 in Jammu and Kashmir, and how the JK RTI Act is more powerful when compared to the RTI Act of Centre.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Dr Shaikh Ghulam Rasool, Chairperson J&K RTI Movement said, how an ordinary group of 12 members, mainly from rural background laid foundation of J&K RTI Movement and how RTI has been used as a powerful tool to reform our community many a times.
He also stated the challenging struggle of TosaMaidan firing range initiated with filing RTI’s, and the obtained information was utilised to concoct strategies that made TosaMaidan Victory achievable.
Venkatesh Nayak, Program Coordinator, Access to Information, CHRI, highlighted the significance of RTI Law in daily lives of people. He also familiarized the students with the procedures for accessing information under the J&K RTI Act. He also responded to several queries raised by law students with regard to drafting RTI applications in relation to legal issues. (KNS)
