People didn’t recognise Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s worth

Srinagar, Oct 03 (KNS): Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said while other Indian states reap the benefits of Indo-Pak thaw, it is the Jammu and Kashmir state that bears the worst brunt of hostile relations and war like situation between the two countries.
“Whenever there is peace between the two countries, we see people to people dialogue, musical shows organised in metropolitan cities, cultural events and much more. But whenever there is a war like situation between India and Pakistan, the people of Jammu and Kashmir become the very first victims of hostility,” Mehbooba said while addressing party workers in Srinagar.
According to KNS correspondent, she added that if war could accord anything to the perturbed people of the state, it is chaos and uncertainty. “We have seen what war has brought us in the past. It has only derailed the hope of witnessing Kashmir in the state of tranquillity,” chief minister said while being flanked by senior party men including her uncle Sartaj Madani.
While recalling her father’s efforts “in getting the state out of turbulence”, Mehbooba said the greatest characteristic Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had was that he was always truthful to his people.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“He (Mufti) always went against the tide for his people and strived to make peace a permanent entity in the state,” said the chief minister.
She said it is now when the people have started missing the PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for his able command and selfless courage. “However, it is also true that people didn’t recognise my father’s worth in the past. He was the man who never bartered his principles.”
Mehbooba said that she assumed the office of the chief minister during the most difficult times of her life. “I had never thought of assuming the CM’s office. I always wanted to remain alongside my father to strive for everlasting peace in the state”
She added that the formation of the PDP was a herculean task as the same year in which PDP was founded, India and Pakistan fought pitched battle at Kargil. “But it was PDP at that time which pitched for the Indo-Pak friendship while declaring the Jammu and Kashmir state as a bridge of peace between the two countries. Such things seemed unpractical then but we went against the wind and achieved our objective,” Mehbooba said. (KNS)
