Reiterating his commitment to do justice with all and promote the state as a united entity, Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, today said that one of the main objectives of the PDP and BJP coming together to forge an alliance, despite ideological differences, was to end contradictions and protect J&K’s unique confluence of three distinct cultures.
“The way J&K joined with India, I dream of connecting the three regions of the state in much the same way so that it reaps the fruits of inclusive development,” he said.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a glittering function here today to commemorate the birth Centenary Celebrations of veteran Congress leader and former Finance Minister of the state, Pandit Girdhari Lal Dogra.
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi was present on the occasion.
Addressing a huge gathering at Jammu University’s Zorawar Singh Auditorium, the Chief Minister said he has no lure for power as he has previously been the country’s Home Minister and the Chief Minister of J&K State. He said he dreams of removing differences and bringing the people living in the three regions of the State together.
While recalling his long association with G. L. Dogra, who was the state’s Finance Minister for 27 years and never lost an election during his illustrious career, the Chief Minister remembered 1959 when GL Dogra joined Democratic National Conference demonstrating true spirit of a leader connected to his people.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Mufti Sayeed said what the state needs today is the same foresightedness of Pt. G. L. Dogra to rise above regional considerations in bringing Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh together. “It is the greatest homage we can pay to his legacy,” he added.
Paying glowing tributes to Pandit Girdhari Lal Dogra on his birth Centenary, the Chief Minister described him as a statesman who always remained connected with the people at the grassroots level. “He was a perfect blend of competence, simplicity and honesty and the fact that he never lost an election and was Finance Minister for 27 long years bear testimony to his credentials as one of the greatest political leaders of his times,” he added.
Referring to his earlier stint as Chief Minister when he took some of the most historic decisions, Mufti Sayeed said his Government has consolidated on the initiatives taken in 2002 to firmly embed a corruption-free and a transparent administration that comes up to the expectations of the people of the state, who remain the principal stakeholders.
Governor, N. N. Vohra, Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh, former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, and Minister of State for NE (Independent Charge) and in PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh and MP and former Governor of J&K, Dr. Karan Singh, were also present on the occasion.
