JK Congress to lose 80 percent of its cadre if remedial measures aren’t taken: Kadfeen

Srinagar August 21 (KNS) :  Congress leader Kadfeen Choudhary has said that party’s doom in Jammu and Kashmir is inevitable is remedial measures aren’t taken vis-à-vis the procedure and the process in which office bearers are dispatched like paratroopers by the high command in the state.

In a statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Kadfeen said that it is ironic that the party which advocates with high pitch about safeguarding the democratic principles in the country is undermining, shelving and ruthlessly dusting the democratic process itself when it comes to according key positions to the members. He said that Shahi farmans are issued without compunction, leading to chaos and confusion within the ranks.

According to Kadfeen, he was among the very few persons within the Congress who raised alarm bells about the repercussions the decisions of selecting the office bearers from Delhi will have. “I want to reiterate that the protest is not personal. We carry no grudge against any person or a group. But it is a question of safeguarding the values the party holds so dear to itself- the values of fairplay and transparency. The decisions that smacks of authoritarian way of functioning are causing the party to lose its cadre that was faithful to it amid all the trying circumstances,” Kadfeen said.

The Congress leader added that the outcome of the decision is evident with the resigning of tallest political leader Ghulam Nabi Azad from the post that was accorded to him during the recent development. “This followed with the resignations of about five former MLAs and many senior office bearers. The process is continuing and could lead to chaos on ground. The undeniable fact is that the high command has been mislead by select few office bearers of the state and in such a process, the Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir is losing most of its veterans and scores of faithful and die-hard foot-soldiers. People are resigning, some are confabulating with other parties, some are at the brink of bidding adieu to the party. If this is not a doom, one would wonder what else is,” Kadfeen said.

Kadfeen said that the incumbent JKPCC President Vikar Rasool has himself stated that President should be elected and not selected one. “However, it is pick and choose which is calling the shots in the party. Icing on the cake is that those who have been accorded the key posts during the recent selection process weren’t around when party needed them the most- this is offending and discouraging for the cadre down the line. I am telling this with curtainity that the Congress party will lose 80 percent of its cadre in coming days if remedial measures aren’t taken and undemocratic decisions aren’t reversed on priority. I urge Smt Sonia Gandhi and Shri Rahul Gandhi to steer the ship to the shore before it could sink into unreachable depths of oblivion,” said Kadfeen.(KNS)
