Javaid Mustafa condemns thrashing of media men in Srinagar

Srinagar Aug 17 (KNS): Jammu Kashmir People’s Movement president, Javaid Mustafa Mir on Tuesday condemned thrashing of media men by forces while covering Muharram procession in Srinagar.

Reacting to the thrashing of media persons at Jehangir Chowk, Javaid Mustafa Mir has said that media is fourth pillar of democracy and the routine coverage as part of its professional obligation must be allowed. “They should not be intimated while performing their duties.”

JKPM said that it was disappointed over the thrashing of media persons, who were covering Muharram procession and expressed its full solidarity with the media fraternity.

Mir urged the Govt to ensure that media persons are allowed to perform their duties without any fear.
 
He also urged the government to put a check on the use of power and order restraint in order to avoid hurting the innocent people who are in the line of their duty. (KNS)
