J&K teacher selected for prestigious US fulbright fellowship

Srinagar, Oct 04 (KNS): Sajad Akbar Rather, a dedicated educator from Government BHSS Bomai, Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir (UT), has been selected for the highly esteemed 2025–2026 Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Program. This prestigious fellowship is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by IREX.

The selection process was highly competitive and involved three rigorous stages: submission of the application and initial screening, a personal interview, and the TOEFL test. Only candidates who cleared all these steps were chosen for the fellowship.

Sajad Rather will join a cohort of distinguished educators worldwide for the program scheduled in the United States from September to October 2026. During this period, he will participate in university-level coursework, specialized seminars focusing on 21st-century teaching methods, observe and co-teach in American schools, and engage in cultural and community activities.

Sajad Rather is not new to recognition. He is a National Award recipient from NCERT (2018) and won the UT Best Teacher Award in 2022.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe also serves as an ATL Mentor at BHSS Bomai and as a UT-level Resource Person in ICT at JK SCERT. His active role in promoting innovative teaching and training in the region includes presenting numerous research papers at national conferences, highlighting creative teaching methodologies.

Expressing gratitude, Sajad thanked his Principal, Abdul Qayoom Dar, for his guidance, as well as Fulbright alumni and his family, friends, and students for their constant support. He also acknowledged the encouragement from the School Education Department of J&K (UT), including Education Minister Sakeena Itoo, Principal Secretary Ram Nivas Sharma, Director School Education Kashmir Dr. G. N. Itoo, JD North Hakeem Tanveer Ahmad, and CEO Baramulla Peerzada Bashir Ahmad Shah.

His achievement shines a spotlight on the growing contributions of teachers from Jammu and Kashmir on the global stage and is expected to inspire many young educators and students across the region.(KNS).
