J&K people didn’t give me grenades, but only love: Rahul Gandhi

Srinagar, Jan 30 (KNS): Congress leader and Member of Parliament, Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that “People of Jammu and Kashmir didn’t give me grenades but showered and expressed their utmost love while joining and supporting the Bharat Jodo Yatra in the region”.

“Security people had told me to go to Kashmir in a vehicle and not on foot. 3-4 days back, administration told me that if I go on foot, grenades would be hurled at me. I thought to give an opportunity to those who hate me, to change color of my t-shirt to red. But interestingly the Bharat Jodo Yatra received huge response which is beyond our imaginations. The people of Jammu and Kashmir didn’t give me grenades, but showered and expressed their utmost love”, Rahul Gandhi as per KNS said while addressing a grand finale rally of Bharat Jodo Yatra in Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here in Srinagar.

Amid heavy snowfall the Congress leader said the aim of the Yatra is to stand like a wall against those who want to destroy the foundations of the country. “I didn’t do the Yatra for myself or Congress. The aim is to stand against an ideology that wants to destroy the foundation of the country”, he said.

“My family taught me, and Gandhi Ji taught me to live fearlessly, otherwise, that is not living. But it happened just as I expected, the people of J&K didn’t give me grenades but only love”, he added. He also spoke about the pain of losing someone while remembering his father Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, saying that he understood that pain of those who lost their kin in the Pulwama attack.

Besides Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, several other top regional political leaders addressed the rally which includes two former chief ministers of J&K – Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. (KNS)
