J&K BOOCWWB asks construction labourers to register themselves to avail benefits of schemes

 Srinagar, June 05 (KNS): Secretary J&K Buildings & Other Constructions Workers Welfare Board, Muneer-ul-Islam on Monday urged construction labourers to get register themselves with the department's official portal and avail multiple schemes rolled out by the government for the welfare of labourers and workers who are not being covered under Employment Provident Fund (EPF) scheme.

 
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Muneer-ul-Islam threw light on the functioning of the department and multiple schemes meant for the welfare of  construction labourers. "The GoI passed an Act in the Parliament in 1996 for the welfare of construction labourers and all states across the country were directed to form the welfare board. In J&K it was constituted in 2011. The board covers construction workers including masons, labourers, carpenters, plumbers, electricians and other skilled persons who doesn't include under EPF scheme," he said.
 
He said under the departmental scheme the board give perks to registered construction labourers like providing education to their kids, financial aid in case of life threatening diseases, marriage assistance to their children etc.
 
He also said the department get funds from private and government owned buildings at the ratio of 1 to 2 percent. " We have sufficient funds as of now. Before exclusion of Ladakh from J&K, we had 150 crore rupees in account, however we get 175 crore rupees of income annually.
 
"We have a FD account in State Bank of India where we have deposited amount generated for the welfare of construction labourers," he added.
 
He said every construction labourer can avail benefits from our schemes after completing pre-requisites. "The labourer has to register themselves on our official portal. He has to submit his age certificate, pay fee of 120 rupees and submit 90 days of certificate of working as a lobour which should be certified by BDO or any elected representative," he added.
 
The officer continued that once a labourer get registered with us, he can simply avail each and every benefit from the board. (KNS)
