Srinagar, Sep 9 (KNS): The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, closed for several weeks due to landslides, is expected to reopen for light motor vehicles (LMVs) from Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
A top official told the Kashmir News Service (KNS), that the Inspector General of Traffic is personally overseeing the restoration and clearance operations on the highway to ensure smooth and safe reopening.
He stated that the resumption of vehicular movement will depend on favorable weather conditions and the completion of debris removal and road repairs along affected stretches.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
During the closure, traffic between Jammu and Srinagar has been diverted to alternative routes, including the Mughal Road, causing delays and congestion.
Officials said that once the highway reopens, LMVs will be allowed to ply from both sides, and arrangements are being made to regulate traffic and avoid bottlenecks.
The highway serves as a vital link between Jammu and Kashmir, and its reopening is expected to ease transportation of passengers, goods, and essential supplies.(KNS).
