Srinagar, Feb 10 (KNS): The mandatory Friday congregational prayers were once again disallowed today at the historic Jamia Masjid in Old city here.
Pertinently, the Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid were banned for more than four months during the 2016 uprising in the Valley. The prayers in the grand Masjid were later allowed following the improvement in the situation.
However, the authorities once again barred people to offer the Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid to thwart the UN chalo march called by the resistance leadership.
The local residents told KNS that a huge deployment of forces was once again deployed since the wee hours of this morning in the locality. “We were not allowed by the authorities to offer the mandatory Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid and forced us to offer prayers at small Masjid’s,” the locals added.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The sources in the police department informed KNS that the deployment was made to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) chairman and Jamia Masjid’s head cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was not allowed to move towards Jamia Masjid to lead prayers there.
“Mirwaiz was disallowed to move out of his Nigeen residence where he remains under house arrest,” Hurriyat (M) leaders said.
