J&K Sports Council launches three-month calendar of activities on National Sports Day

 Srinagar, Aug 27 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council on Thursday launched a three-month sports activity calendar as part of National Sports Day celebrations, featuring hockey and football events, junior girls' trials and the second season of the Kashmir Super League.

 
The calendar was unveiled by Sports Minister Satish Sharma in the presence of Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, and Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull.
 
The council also launched a four-day programme of sporting activities to mark National Sports Day, which is observed on August 29 to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.
 
The activities were centred around the Synthetic Turf Football Ground at TRC in Srinagar, where an exhibition football match between J&K Heroes and J&K Stars was held.
 
International and national-level gymnasts also performed during the programme, while UT-level junior girls' football trials were conducted to identify and nurture young talent from across Jammu and Kashmir.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
 
The event also witnessed the unveiling of the jersey and trophy for the second season of the Kashmir Super League (KSL).
 
Sharma interacted with KSL franchise owners and emphasised the role of the league in identifying and developing young footballers and providing them a platform to progress to higher levels.
 
The minister also announced that the Major Dhyan Chand Memorial Hockey Cup would begin on August 28 and continue for four days.
 
During the programme, Sharma interacted with football fans and hockey players and highlighted the role of sports in promoting discipline and healthy lifestyles among youngsters.
 
He also urged youth to stay away from drugs as part of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council's Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan, an anti-drug campaign aimed at encouraging young people to embrace sports and fitness.(KNS).
